Location

Villas Río Mar is situated 21 miles (35 km) from the town of San Isidro de El General on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, a short walk from Dominical Village and the unspoiled beach. It's a three hour drive on a good paved road from San José, through an incredible landscape, containing several microclimates and varied flora.

Our unique and beautiful "palenque" restaurant serves international and local specialties that will surprise even the most discriminating gourmets. At our cozy bar, you will find a variety of delicious tropical cocktails.

Activities

Villas Rio Mar is the perfect spot for an active vacation. We have horses, mountainbikes, kayaks, river tubes and snorkel and fishing equipment. From behind the resort hiking trails lead into the jungle up the mountains, offering you spectacular views of the rugged coastline.
Also there is an open air Conference Center hidden in the jungle, fitting up to eighty people and ideal for nature and health oriented meetings and seminars.

The extensive grounds of the resort are a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike. Don't be surprised to find a toucan or crane perched on your private terrace early in the morning.

Especially for those working on their suntan we have a large swimming pool with a swim-up bar to cool you down, and a Jacuzzi that will sooth your stresses away.

If you are into sports, Villa Rio Mar is the place to be! Though still a friendly small village, Dominical is a world famous hotspot for surfing.

Tennis lovers will be sure to enjoy our shaded tennis court, with racquets and balls available for their use.

Seasons

The area has an average temperature of 83F (28C) and is green year round. There is a dry season from November thru April. During the rest of the year, the mornings are usually sunny but it may rain in the afternoon. This is the best time of year for nature lovers.

Nature Activities

• Horseback rides to famous Nauyaca Waterfalls - only 3 miles from the resort, this trip is "almost compulsory" for every Costa Rica visitor.
• Hacienda Barú Nature Reserve and primary forest - guided hikes of varying difficulty take you deep into the jungle - they also offer canopy exploration.
• Snorkeling in Ballena National Marine Park
• Chirripó National Park (highest peak in Costa Rica)

3 or 4 Day Package

If you leave San José early in the morning, you'll arrive in Dominical after a three hour drive across the Cerro de la Muerte and through incredible landscapes. In the afternoon, there is time to explore the region on mountain bike or to go river tubing. The second day starts with an early, guided hike through primary rainforest at the Hacienda Barú Private Reserve. There is also the opportunity to explore the canopy. In the afternoon we take you to Ballena National Marine Park, one of Costa Rica's least visited but most beautiful coastal parks. Against a magnificent backdrop of 3600 foot, steep mountains fringed by unexplored beaches, you'll take off on a boat for snorkeling on the coral reefs. The next day allows for relaxation by the pool, before departure to San José in the afternoon. This three day trip can be extended by a one day horse trip from the resort to Costa Rica's most impressive Nauyaca Waterfalls.
